We live our lives racing through routines, juggling obligations, and constantly checking things off our endless to-do lists. We're so focused on what we should be doing or where we need to go that we often lose sight of something far more important—being fully present in the moment. This weekend, I had the privilege of stepping away from my everyday regimen and reconnecting with myself, and it reminded me just how essential it is to find freedom in our everyday lives.
A Serendipitous Journey
I was invited by a dear friend to attend a workshop at the Omega Institute, nestled in the heart of the Hudson Valley. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect as fall wrapped the world around me in vibrant hues of amber, gold, and crimson. There’s something magical about autumn—how the trees unapologetically shed their leaves, making space for new growth, for new beginnings. It's nature’s perfect reminder that we, too, have the power to let go of what no longer serves us.
The workshop was led by an inspiring speaker named Kate Winthrop and workshop was entitled More Than Enough. A great reminder as , who talked about the universe’s abundant gifts. It was a powerful session, filled with reflections on how the universe often provides exactly what we need—when we stop trying to control everything and simply allow life to unfold. Afterward, my friend Andrea and I hopped in the car for an impromptu drive to Rhinebeck, New York. It was one of those perfect sunny days, where the sky stretches out endlessly above you, and the breeze feels like an embrace.
We looked at each other and asked, What are we rushing back to? Why do we feel such urgency to return to the grind of our daily lives when the moment we’re in feels so full, so alive?
The Freedom of the Unexpected
In that moment of reflection, we decided to stay the night in Rhinebeck, a charming little town that seemed to welcome us with open arms. What followed were a series of serendipitous encounters that made us both stop and say, You can’t make this stuff up! It felt like the universe was speaking to us, reinforcing Kate’s message of abundance and flow.

We didn’t plan to stay overnight. We didn’t have an itinerary. And that’s exactly when life takes hold—when you surrender to the beauty of the unexpected. I was reminded that freedom is not just about escaping responsibility, but about embracing the moment fully, without expectation or rigid plans.
Prioritizing Freedom in Everyday Life
The next day, I took the scenic route to Cold Spring, a place I had long wanted to visit but never found the time for. How often do we push off the things we want to do, in favor of the things we must do? How often do we prioritize our responsibilities to others over our responsibilities to ourselves?
Driving through the rolling hills, surrounded by the breathtaking fall foliage, I felt a sense of clarity. The changing leaves were a visual reminder that we, too, can let go of the things that no longer serve us—whether they are old habits, limiting beliefs, or even the pressures we place on ourselves to always be productive. Just as the trees effortlessly shed their leaves, we can choose to release the weight of these self-imposed burdens.
Life's Kaleidoscope of Color

We’re all living, breathing kaleidoscopes—constantly changing, evolving, and capable of expressing endless shades of ourselves. Yet, so often we hold onto the dry, brittle leaves of outdated routines or obligations. We stay stuck, because change feels daunting or because we feel we don’t deserve the space to just be.
But here’s the truth: We are as vibrant and expansive as the fall landscape. When we give ourselves the freedom to shed what’s no longer working, we make room for new opportunities, new experiences, and a deeper connection to who we truly are.
Finding Freedom in Everyday Moments
You don’t have to take a weekend getaway to experience this kind of freedom (though it certainly helps!). It’s about finding small pockets of stillness in your everyday life. Maybe it’s taking a detour on your way home, or sitting quietly with your thoughts in the morning before diving into the day’s chaos. Maybe it’s as simple as giving yourself permission to say “no” to one thing so you can say “yes” to yourself.
Conclusion
As the seasons change and nature transforms before our eyes, we, too, have the opportunity to embrace change in our lives. We can find freedom by allowing ourselves to shed the old and make space for the new. We can stop rushing through life and start truly living in the moment, appreciating the abundance that’s already around us.
So, let the vibrant colors of fall remind you that you are free to evolve, free to embrace life’s seasons, and free to express the brilliant spectrum of who you are.
